Technology is an important part looking at the second world war and how each battle affected the war in a different way. The main areas of the importance of technological improvement are within the medical field, as soldiers were to be healed faster from their war wounds, the Boats and Submarine quality, The aircraft technology, and forces fighting on the ground. Technological progress gave the war its brutality, as it forced millions upon million of casualties upon itself, however, the outcome of the war was also determined by other factors such as weather conditions, military organization and the strategic thinking of the leader of each nation
In the early years of the second world war, Nazi Germany clearly dominated with their Blitzkrieg strategy, their sophisticated Air Force (Luftwaffe) and tank (Panzer) forces, which allowed them to invade one country after another, without being stopped in 1940 at the battle of Britain, in which Britain due to a new RADAR technology was able to predict the German Wehrmacht's plans and react faster to them. Even though the German army outnumbered the british forces, the strategy which Hitler used allowed Britain to build up their air force and dominate the battle.
The Major Turning point of the second World war was, however, not due to a dominance of technology, but due to poor decision making of Adolf Hitler. As he decided to postpone Operation Barbarossa to the fall, the German Army was caught upon one of the coldest winters in the History of Russia. The soldiers were forced to starve and freeze to death with no chance to return back to Germany.
The invention of a nuclear bomb is the most memorable outcome of the the second world war. Being able to kill millions of people within seconds gives a nation immense power and brought the war to a new level of brutality. As the United states drop two atomic bombs on hiroshima and Nagasaki, the battle was decided within a few minutes, as Japan has no choice but to surrender to the United States.
But not only did the technology impact on the war, the war also resulted in lots of progress regarding technology. While the inventions and technological improvements of this war can never be justified against the appalling loss of life, the world came to a new era of technological advance, after the war was over. Flying with an airplane was very dangerous up until 1944, until the US invented the pressurized cabin, allowing passengers and the pilot to fly without gas masks. The field of medicine also rapitly improved do to the inventions made in WWII.
